Does chai have health benefits?
The health advantages associated with chai are largely attributed to its unique blend of spices. For instance, cardamom has been recognized for its positive impact on digestion and its antioxidant qualities, while black pepper may contribute to the reduction of inflammation. Animal studies indicate that cinnamon—a key component of chai—has potential benefits such as lowering LDL cholesterol and blood pressure. Black tea, another primary ingredient, is linked to improved heart health through the reduction of blood cholesterol. Although direct research on chai tea’s effects on cardiovascular health is limited, there is supporting evidence that many ingredients commonly found in chai may promote a healthy heart.
While chai tea contains less caffeine than coffee, black tea-based varieties typically provide 30-50 milligrams per serving—roughly half the amount found in coffee. The FDA considers up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day safe for most healthy adults, which equates to approximately four cups of coffee.
In addition to its health-related attributes, chai also offers lifestyle benefits; the process of brewing chai can be soothing and provides an opportunity for mindfulness and reflection.
BEWARE PRE-PACKAGES MIXES
Many packaged chai tea mixes, pre-made beverages, and concentrates contain significant amounts of added sugar and dairy. Certain chai tea concentrates may provide up to 24 grams of added sugar per serving. Additionally, selecting specific types of milk can further increase total sugar intake. According to the American Heart Association, the recommended daily limit for added sugars is 24 grams for women and 36 grams for men. Consequently, a single serving of chai tea concentrate could account for an individual's entire recommended daily sugar allowance.
For optimal health benefits, it is advisable to review nutrition labels carefully. Preparing chai at home or opting for unsweetened varieties can also help reduce unnecessary sugar consumption.

How should I store my chai?
Dry chai blends should be stored in a cool, dry location to preserve their freshness. Properly stored blends can remain fresh for several months, and often for up to one year. Our chai blends are crafted by hand with high-quality, ethically sourced ingredients, ensuring optimal spice quality at the time of blending. However, as with all spices, potency may gradually diminish over time. While chai blends do not have a set expiration date, their flavors may become less robust after approximately one year.
