Masala Chai Applesauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds Apples (We used September Wonder apples that came recommended from our local farmer's market for making sauce)
  • 4 heaped tsp. Chai Tea(We used our bold masala chai blend)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 a medium lemon, juiced
  • 1-2 tbsp. sugar, or to taste

Directions:

  1. Peel, core, and dice apples very small. Add to a Medium saucepan. Cover diced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. Boil water and pour over loose tea leaves in a teapot. Steep for 5-7 minutes. Strain over apples.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring regularly. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring every few minutes.
  4. Let cool for a few minutes then strain out excess liquid. Mash or puree using desired method, we used a food processor.
  5. Serve.

Tips

  • We added 2 tbsp. of sugar because the applesauce was a little bitter once complete. After sitting overnight it got much sweeter that it was after originally adding the sugar. You may want to add about half the sugar if you don't plan on eating the applesauce immediately.
  • Using the liquid we strained out of the apples we added an equal part of sugar to make an apple chai syrup. Super easy, tasty, and reduces waste!

Chai Spiced Oatmeal

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 C. Water
  • 3 tbsp. Chai Tea(We used our bold masala chai blend)
  • 3/4 C. Steel Cut Oats
  • 1/8 tsp. Salt
  • 2 tsp. Sugar
  • Milk, to serve

Directions:

  1. Boil water and pour over loose tea leaves in a teapot. Steep for 5-7 minutes. Strain brewed tea into a saucepan, reserve 1/2 cup to the side.
  2. Bring to a boil, add oatmeal and salt. Reduce to medium-low heat. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the oats have absorbed most of the liquid.
  3. Remove from heat. Serve topped with milk.

Tips

  • You can add topping to this to enhance the flavor or add more nutrients. We recommend almonds, diced apples, and/or chai seeds.
